Our Philosophy

We chose to move from Christchurch city in 1983 to live in this remote wilderness area with our four children in a safe, healthy environment teaching them to be independent and resourceful.

Hamish and I are very involved in our local community and committed to the principles of organic and sustainable production. True Blue Organics is the only certified property on the West Coast but there is an informal growers’ group in Karamea that meets to share information and ideas. Commercial crops grown here include black passionfruit, tamarillos and feijoas. The annual visit by the BioGro auditor is very welcome as it is an opportunity to discuss problems and catch up on what’s happening for organic producers around the country.

We encourage students from the organic horticultural course at Lincoln College’s Biological Husbandry Unit to come here for their week’s work experience and we also offer hospitality at times to willing workers from other countries.
